Safety

At Energy Transfer and Sunoco Pipeline, safety is our top priority. Our goal is to provide safe and reliable transportation of natural gas liquids (NGLs) for our customers. Using advanced technology and a proven safety design, the Mariner East pipeline system has added features that exceed federal requirements and will minimize the impact to the environment and local communities along the route.

Energy Transfer and Sunoco Pipeline are committed to the long-term integrity and safe operation of the Mariner East pipeline system. There are many safety precautions we will employ for the protection of the pipeline and the safety of the communities along the route.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Office of Pipeline Safety is the federal safety authority for ensuring the safe, reliable and environmentally sound operations of our nation’s pipeline transportation system. PHMSA’s “Transportation of Hazardous Liquids by Pipeline” regulation (49 CFR 195) incorporates by reference 48 industry standards and specifications that have been developed by organizations such as the American Petroleum Institute, National Fire Protection Association and ASME International.

Energy Transfer is committed to operating our pipelines to the highest standards. We do this not only because it makes good business sense but because it is the right thing to do. In support of that commitment, we have an Integrity Management Plan (IMP) to maintain the structural integrity of all our pipelines.

Our Integrity Management Plan provides a means to improve the safety of our pipeline systems. Please choose any of the links below to learn more about pipeline integrity:
